Friday we were working away in the shop when a cute woman walked in, and, looking flustered, pronounced:
"I need to get a baby gift."
I started my spiel about how everything is embroidered right here in the shop and asked who the gift was for, but before I could finish she blurted:
"I just found out I'm pregnant. And you're the first person I've told. And I want to get something to share the news with my husband. Oh my gosh that sounds so weird!" Then she burst into tears.
We hugged, and the woman cried some more, and Lorie my embroiderer got a little weepy. We settled on a teeny KissyKissy onesie, which we sewed with the baby’s last name on the bum. We embroidered it for her on the spot, so she could walk back to her apartment and share the news with her hubby. Her plan was to say “I got some new clothes today, want to see them?”
THAT is why I started Makaboo: we get to be a part of one of the most exciting, love-filled, and rejuvenating adventures of the human experience: welcoming someone new to the world.
So, to the mom-to-be, who shall remain anonymous because she hasn’t told family and friends yet: thank you for letting Makaboo be a part of your growing family’s story. We’re so excited for you, and we can’t wait to meet the little one.
I think it’s a boy, by the way.
